        WTF is MUD\WTR

MUD\WTR started when I realized the way I was using caffeine wasn’t helping me feel the way I wanted to feel. Coffee wasn’t the enemy. Too much caffeine was. I wanted a way to rise that supported my mind instead of spinning it out.

So I got curious. I looked at my habits — the ones I’d never questioned — and asked whether they were actually helping me show up as myself. That question led to a new kind of ritual, one built around functional mushrooms and a more intentional way to begin the day.

From there, MUD\WTR became less about a single product and more about a simple idea: healthy habits create healthy minds. Over time, that’s grown into rituals that help you rise, rest, and nourish yourself with a little more awareness.

All it takes is one lead domino — a small shift that quietly changes everything else.

Drink different. You might just start thinking different too.

        With gratitude,
Shane

        Your NewRitual, Made Simple.

        Step 1

Add 1 tablespoon to 6-8 ounces of hot water.

        Step 2

        Froth or stir until smooth.

        Step 3

Drink straight, top with milk, or pour over ice.

        Born froma Personal Discovery

Founded by Shane in Venice, California, MUD WTR began as a personal experiment shared with friends looking to rethink daily caffeine habits.

Today, the brand creates thoughtfully crafted products and supports initiatives focused on mental well-being.

        Ask us anything

        What does it taste like?

Rich cocoa melts into a earthy masala chai, that feels like hot cocoa and a chai latte had a baby

How much caffeine is in each serving?

Our Original blend contains a fraction of the caffeine found in coffee. On average, coffee contains 90-100mg of caffeine. That can vary up to +/-30mg, depending on the beans and the roasting method, according to the FDA. Meanwhile, Original has around 35mg of caffeine per serving.

How is it Whole30 with oats on the label?

You’re correct that oats and products made with oats are eliminated during Whole30. Whole30 HQ has made an exception to that rule for MUD\WTR as we use organic oats that are used as material to culture the mushroom blend. Because oats are not present in significant amounts in the final product, Whole30 determined MUD\WTR is still Whole30 Approved and compatible during the program.

        Will MUD\WTR make me trip?

The mushrooms in MUD\WTR are magic ... but they're not that kind of magic. Nothing in mud will cause a psychedelic trip, but if you're into that sort of thing, check out our psychedelics journalism on Trends w/ Benefits.

        Where are the mushrooms grown?

Where many source their mushrooms from China, we decided to stick a little closer to home. All of our mushrooms are 100% organically grown in California on gluten-free oats, under clean air, and selected for their unique capacity to support mental AND physical functions.

        What are the benefits?

        • 45mg caffeine + 100% organic ingredients
        • 2,250mg of beneficial mushrooms grown in USA
        • Natural, sustaining energy without the jitters
        • Laser focus without the brain fog
        • Supports immunity and gut health

        What is Swiss Water® Decaf?

The proprietary Swiss Water® Decaf process is a method of decaffeinating beans using only water, time and temperature. Although the process was developed in Switzerland in the 1930's, the Swiss Water® Decaf process is done in Canada. It's a pretty simple couple of steps using basic chemistry, so get out your notebook and follow along (there will not be a quiz at the end... maybe). 1. A special "tea" is created in fresh water with coffee beans, where all of the water soluble compounds, including caffeine, are extracted from the beans into the pure water. This tea is then filtered to remove only the caffeine, and the resulting liquid is called "Green Coffee Extract" or GCE. Basically a decaffeinated coffee made with green beans instead of roasted beans. 2. Fresh green coffee beans are hydrated in water to facilitate caffeine removal. 3. The beans are then washed in GCE, which because it's saturated in coffee compounds except for caffeine, will pull the caffeine from the green beans while leaving all of the other compounds inside the bean. Chemistry! 4. The GCE is constantly monitored and refreshed as the caffeine is filtered from it, allowing it to be recycled again and again over the decaffeination process. 5. Once the caffeine is drawn from the beans, they are ready to be dried and roasted with all of the their coffee goodness intact, just minus the caffeine and no extra harsh chemical residues.

What species of cordyceps is in MUD\WTR?

MUD\WTR uses Cordyceps militaris, one of the most researched species of cordyceps. Studies suggest it may support energy, endurance, and immune function:

Energy & EnduranceCordyceps militaris has been shown to improve tolerance to high-intensity exercise. In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, 3 weeks of supplementation with a Cordyceps militaris-containing blend significantly improved VO2max and time to exhaustion compared to placebo. (Hirsch KR et al., Journal of Dietary Supplements, 2017. DOI: 10.1080/19390211.2016.1203386)

Immune SupportCordyceps militaris contains bioactive compounds including polysaccharides and cordycepin that have demonstrated immunomodulatory effects, supporting both innate and adaptive immune response. (Lee CT et al., Frontiers in Pharmacology, 2020. DOI: 10.3389/fphar.2020.575704)
